Proudly leading the way, 14 Medical Captains dedicate enormous time and effort to building a dynamic, progressive Emergency Medical Service system to serve the citizens and visitors of San Juan County.

EMS calls account for over 60% of the total San Juan County Fire Department annual call volume. With the implementation of County-wide Medical Direction in 2007, our licensed First Responders and EMT's respond with state of the art LifePack 1000 defibrillators and the ability to administer life-saving medications.

Attributes contributing to the success of our program include:

San Juan County Firefighters are ready to respond to any call, day or night, with professional, specialized training in everything from cardiac arrests, to vehicle extrication using the "Jaws of Life" to Swift water Rescue to High angle Rescue to a "Llama Rescue." (Yes, that's Llama Rescue)
