San Juan County Fire Department District 1 (Valley) was created in 1952. District 1 is unique in regards to the amount of commercial business established within their community including two power plants, underground coal mine, above ground coal mine, and six schools. District 1 also has a full training facility including a training tower, burn boxed, and an LPG training ground. Currently District 1 responds to approximately 1350 emergency calls per year making them our busiest district. District 1 covers an area of 272 square miles with 15 pieces of apparatus and approximately 40 volunteer firefighters operating out of 4 stations.
Station 1 & 4 are located on US HWY 64 in the Kirtland area. Station 2 is located on CR 6100 next to Kirtland Middle School and Station 3 is located on US HWY 64 in Hogback.
District 1 is first due when called to the PNM Power Plant, APS Power Plant, Navajo Mine North and San Juan Coal mining facility.
