36 Years of Dedicated Service to San Juan County

Station 1

Station 2

San Juan County Fire Department District 4 (La Plata) started as San Juan County District 3 in 1972 and operated out of an old stone barn donated by Chano and Stella Montoya. The only apparatus during that time was an old farm flat bed truck with a water tank.

Currently District 4 responds to approximately 275 emergency calls per year. District 4 covers an area of 221 square miles with six pieces of apparatus and approximately 30 volunteer firefighters operating out of two stations. Both stations are located along HWY 170.

District 4 takes great pride in providing fire and EMS services to the citizens located on NM 170 and all connected county roads. NM 170 runs from the City limits of Farmington to Hesperus, CO. District 4 has responded first due into Colorado several times in their history. District 4 is also the first due for the Glade area which is well known for rock crawling and general ATV sports.

District 4 assists the City of Farmington when called by covering parts of the west side.
