District 8

28 Years of Dedicated Service to San Juan County

Station 1

Station 2

San Juan County Fire Department, District 8, Hart Valley started in 1981 when a local community member learned the County Commission had funding available to build fire stations. Leo and Patsy Tafoya donated the land where the station was built. Hart Valley was named after Alex Hart who farmed in the valley when people started settling in the area.

District 8 covers an area of 33 square miles with six pieces of apparatus and approximately 30 volunteer firefighters. They operate out of two stations. Station one is located on CR 3100 and Station 2 is located on CR 3950.

District 8 serves San Juan County citizens from CR 3000 south to the Power line Road area. Their east to west coverage is from the Aztec City limits to the Farmington City limits on the south side of the Animas River.

District 8 has automatic aid agreements with District 2 and 6. They also respond mutual to Farmington and Aztec when requested.
